They hadn’t sung together since 1982. Paramount reunited them at a party only Hollywood could throw, for the worldwide DVD release of Grease and Saturday Night Fever. Olivia Newton-John and John Travolta, co-stars in Randal Kleiser’s musical film, set the room ablaze with a live rendition of “You Are the One That I Want,” the title song from Grease.
“The last time we sang it was in 1982, at one of my concerts,” recalled a very moved Olivia Newton-John. At the final note, the emotion reached its peak: the two actors embraced for a long time, to the enthusiastic applause of Paramount’s guests.
Another big surprise awaited the 2,000 lucky guests welcomed to the heart of the studios: the entire film crew, including Frankie Avalon, Joan Blondell, Dody Goodman, Shah Na Na, and Eve Arden, joined the two actors on stage to sing “Summer Nights” together. They were all also celebrating the 25th anniversary of Saturday Fever.
The film, which launched the career of a certain Travolta, will be re-released on DVD for the first time on October 10th with fully restored Dolby 5.1 sound. These two cult classics, along with Fever, “Staying Alive”, “Footloose”, and “Urban Cowboy” will feature a complete remastering of Fever, a film he remains proud of.
Paramount Home Video is offering a special deal to French fans of these five legendary films: buy two DVDs and get a third free.
To celebrate this release, Paramount rolled out the red carpet, inviting all of Hollywood to the set of “The Untouchables”. Greeted by cheerleaders in neon skirts on roller skates, the guests, who had a choice of all-you-can-eat hot dogs or pizza, gave a standing ovation to the veterans of Grease and Saturday Night Fever, among the biggest hits in the film industry.
